2011 Summer Concerts

The Leominster Colonial Band has announced their 2011 summer concert schedule. Concerts are held on Tuesday Evenings beginning July 19th at the Bisceglia Bandstand in Carter Park in downtown Leominster. All concerts begin at 7:30 P.M.

July 19 -- Marches, Polkas and Waltzes
July 26 -- Some Nice Things We've Missed
August 2 -- Civil War Centennial
August 9 -- The Golden Era of Broadway
August 16 -- Season Finale

Now beginning their 101st season, the Leominster Colonial Band will present five concerts this summer. One of the highlights will be a concert commemorating the centennial of the start of the Civil War, which will feature some rarely heard music actually played by military bands at the time. "I'm a big amateur historian," the band's conductor, Steven Piermarini, said recently. "I really enjoy opportunities to combine my interest in history with my passion for music. Planning the Civil War concert has led me to find some really interesting pieces." Other concerts will feature music from classic Broadway shows such as "The King and I," "Annie Get Your Gun" and "My Fair Lady." Traditional summer band fare such as marches, polkas and waltzes will also be represented. Sponsors for the concerts include the Music Performance Fund, the Leominster Cultural Commission, and the City of Leominster. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the music, and families with children are especially welcome. In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be held at the Leominster City Hall auditorium. Anyone seeking further information may call band manager John DeCicco at (978) 537-4780.
