History of the Band

(click on thumbnail for full-size view)

The first known photo of the Banda Regione d'Italia, the predecessor of the present-day Leominster Colonial Band, taken in 1911. Gaspare Bisceglia, founder and first conductor, is at the center of the front row.

In this undated early photograph, the Banda Regione d'Italia is pictured on the grounds of the Lancaster St. School. Maestro Bisceglia can be found precisely in the center of the photo, gazing to the left.

Here the Colonial Band is posed on the steps of St. Anna's Church in Leominster. Taken sometime in the 1950s, several long-time band members are prominent in this photo including Maestro Bisceglia (front row, 3rd from left), Charlie Johns (2nd row, 2nd from left), Patsy DeLibero (far right, 2nd row), Clito Piermarini (1st row, far right) and Larry Carrescia (top center).

This 1980 photograph shows the band pictured on the Leominster Common, along Park St. in front of the Vietnam Memorial. Conductor E. Vincent Bisceglia is 3rd from the left in the front row, and current conductor Steven Piermarini is 4th from the left in the 2nd row.

Assistant Conductor Piermarini leads the band at Carter Park in this 1983 photo, showing the bandstand before the current structure was built. Long-time clarinetist Roger Pascarelli is seen in the foreground at left, and tenor saxophonists Judy (Manatt) Piermarini and Norm Koski can be seen just above the children who are enjoying the music on the steps.

Taken in February of 2004, this formal photograph shows the slightly smaller edition of the band on the City Hall stage after recording "Marcia Sinfonica."
